Tearfund in Ethiopia is looking for a highly competent and experienced Technical Research Specialist, to support the Elrha-funded innovation challenge on ‘Meaningful Participation of older people and people with disabilities in humanitarian response'.

Tearfund is a UK based, Christian INGO working in over 45 of the poorest countries around the world, to lift people out of poverty, using local partners and churches wherever possible. Key to our success are our values and characteristics, and the dedication and professionalism of Tearfund staff and partners in the countries we work. Tearfund has been working in Ethiopia since the 1970s. Along with our in-country partners, we have supported the establishment and development of more than 20,000 self-help groups (SHGs) across 50 locations in Ethiopia, as a sustainable, holistic approach to fighting poverty.

The Technical Research Specialist takes the lead on research-related co-creation of assessment tools, participative audits and data analysis and report writing for both stakeholder influencing as well as to fulfill donor requirements.

Do you have specialist knowledge of older people and/or people with disabilities in Ethiopia?

And do you have experience of:

  • Community development and/or humanitarian response,
  • Undertaking or coordinating research independently and/or as part of a team,
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills,
  • Ability to set research agenda, and to analyse, interpret and summarise complex information,
  • Mixed methods research skills, with substantive qualitative research expertise.

This is a national position based in Ethiopia. Applicants who have the right to live and work in Ethiopia will be considered for this position.

The role is based in Addis Ababa with frequent travel to Shashemene. And the role is offered full time but flexible working will be considered to enable the best candidates to come forward.
