Alight, formerly the American Refugee Committee (ARC), is an international non-profit, nonsectarian organization that has been providing life-saving humanitarian assistance for refugees, disaster affected, and internally displaced people for over 40 years. Alight is helping millions in many countries in in Africa, Asia and Europe, including in Iraq, Kosovo, Haiti, Sudan, South Sudan, Rwanda, Somalia, and currently starting Ethiopia program. Alight was registered in Ethiopia under Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No. 1113/2019 on February 01, 2021, with registry number 5370.

The overall objective of ALIGHT Ethiopia/Tigray program is to provide life-saving assistance to the IDPs and conflict affected in Tigray through Shelter/NFI, WASH, Protection, Health and Nutrition interventions; enable them respond to recurring emergencies, help them build resiliency of communities through strengthening of existing social services such as health, water facilities/structures and support creation of durable solutions IDPs and conflict affected communities through a set of integrated activities. Alight Ethiopia Program has country office offices in Addis Ababa and regional office in Mekelle.


Reporting to Psychosocial Counselor, Community Mobilizer will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the Alight’s current and future protection activities in Tigray. S/he will support and facilitate trainings, community meeting, campaign and other protection related issues; collaborate with relevant local authorities and duty-bearers to improve protection-related assistance in Alight program areas.


  • Participate in TOT for community volunteers and local leaders on key protection topics related to preventing and raising awareness on GBV
  • Meet weekly with community members in groups to build their awareness and knowledge of GBV, how to prevent GBV, where or who to report GBV incidences to and where to seek services.
  • Support protection/CP/GBV Officer in facilitating community events intended to raise awareness on CP/GBV and prevent incidences.
  • Submit weekly report to GBV Officer on community mobilization activities.
  • Collaborate with other humanitarian agencies and government stakeholders legal aid providers to promote and enhance the protective environment for refugees/host.
  • Other duties assigned by your supervisor.


  • Diploma in law, social work, social sciences, community Development, international development, or other relevant field from a recognized institution
  • Or at least, a certificate level training in Protection topics, particularly in Child Protection, prevention of and response to GBV, advocacy
  • Knowledge of key protection issues faced by all groups in Tigray.
  • At least 1-year experience in community mobilization, particularly mobilization on protection (CP/GBV issues.
  • Demonstrable ability to impart sensitive information and utilize confidentiality protocols with utmost professionalism and discretion.

  • Should have good documentation and dissemination / presentation skills
  • Should be able to live, work and travel in an insecure environment, following strict security guidelines at all times.
  • Proven capacity to work in a quickly moving, unstable situation and work against targeted outputs with tight time frames and deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
