The Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) APSA project supports the African Union (AU) and regional organisations (RECs/RMs) to strengthen and effectively utilise instruments of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), which include the Panel of the Wise, the Continental Early Warning Systems (CEWS), the African Standby Force (ASF) and the Peace Fund. The GIZ APSA project supports the African Union Peace and Security Department through various activities and is currently looking for a consultancy firm in the area of communications.

The consulting firm will be requested to complete tasks on an ad-hoc basis, as needs arise. The tasks will include, though are not limited, to the following:

  • Innovative designs and layouts for websites

  • Development of visual and animated social media content, incl. for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube

  • Design and layout of publications, newsletters, brochures and fact sheets

  • Design of roll-up banners and posters

  • Editing of photos and videos

  • Visual sketches and illustrations

  • Graphic recording of virtual (or physical) meetings

  • Graphic animations, e.g. to include in e-Learning

  • Development of templates, e.g. PPT presentations

The consulting firm should either be based in Addis Ababa or conduct the work remotely. The contract will take the form of a retainer contract with up to 40 days until June 2021. The consulting firm will be required to use the days as per GIZ APSA’s request.


The consulting firm should have the following qualifications:

  • Qualifications:

o Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field.

  • Language:

o Strong command of the English language.

o Knowledge of French is an asset.

  • Specific professional experience:

o At least four years of experience with graphic recording and creative consulting;

o At least three years of experience as a graphic designer;

o Proven ability to use graphic recording and design to display information in innovative ways;

o Previous work experience with an international organisation in the area of peace and security is an asset;

o Previous work experience with the African Union is an asset;

  • General professional experience:

o Proven ability to deliver in a timely manner.

How to apply:

The consulting firm will be required to submit a technical and financial offer. The financial offer should list the daily fees charged for this retainer contract. Please note that this should not be specific to the task required, as a variety of tasks (as listed above) will have to be performed throughout the contract duration. The technical offer should include the approach taken by the consulting firm and showcase its previous work in the areas listed above.

All bids must be delivered/submitted via email address before 4:30pm Ethiopian time on Wednesday, 14th of October 2020. All bids must include a full technical and financial offer. Technical and financial offers have to be submitted separately.

GIZ – Support to the AU on Migration and Displacement Project reserves the right to cancel the bid fully or partially.
