Introduction

The ILO Internship Programme provides an opportunity for talented individuals to: (a) increase understanding of relevant issues at the international level by involving them directly in the work of the Office and the application of ILO principles, programmes and strategies; (b) gain practical experience with the ILO directly related to their field of study. The internship programme is not intended to lead to a career in the ILO. There should be no expectation of further employment at the end of the internship.

As An Intern, The Selected Applicant Will Gain Experience In Different Areas Such As The Following

As part of this programme, the ILO, Country Office Addis Ababa would like to recruit an intern to support programming.

    • Preparation of TORs and concept notes
    • Preparation of project proposals
    • Preparing contracts
    • Organizing workshops
    • Invitation letters
    • Review of projects
    • Undertake Budget revisions
    • Preparation of progress reports
    • Development of case studies, success stories

 

Learning areas

    • Development of an effective programme M&E system,
    • Support to Alliance 8.7,
    • Knowledge building and knowledge sharing,
    • Development of programme/project work plans and ensuring that performance indicators have clearly defined baselines and targets,
    • Contributing to development of routine as well as ad hoc survey data collection tools,
    • Maintaining and update databases and records on programme activities for monitoring and evaluation purposes,
    • Provide support for effective oversight of the programme and other related programmes and projects focusing on compilation and collating of data and information required for programme planning, monitoring and evaluation,
    • Support to programme reporting focusing on provision of programme inputs as contribution to compilation of progress reports and inputs for resource mobilization strategies,
    • analysing information on donors and contributing to production of programme/project profiles for presentation to donors,

    • Support knowledge building and knowledge sharing focusing on training staff and partners on M&E-related issues and contribute to the identification, documentation and dissemination of best practices, lessons learned and human interest stories including through social media; and participate in M&E knowledge networks and communities of practice,
    • Provide other programming and administrative support to programme and project activities,
    • maintaining financial and administrative records for the project and monitoring financial and activity delivery in collaboration with Programme and Finance,
    • Draft correspondence on routine matters including minutes/summary notes for meetings and communications to national stakeholders and partners to obtain information for programme implementation,
    • Perform other duties, as assigned by the Supervisor and the ILO CO Director.

 

Required Profile

Candidates should normally be enrolled in the final year of a postgraduate degree programme (such as a Masters programme or equivalent), or in a higher degree programme in a recognized university/College or have completed such programmes in the previous or current year.

Education

Masters or First level University degree in Social Science, Development Studies, International Relations, Accounting/Finance, Commerce, Economics, Statistics or related field would be an asset.

Experience

Relevant professional experience in designing, implementing, and operating project M&E systems from project initiation to closeout stages. Experience in strategic planning and performance measurement, including indicator selection, target setting, reporting, database management, and developing M&E and performance monitoring plans.

Languages

Excellent knowledge of English and working language amharic.

Competencies

    • Good knowledge of programme implementation, monitoring and evaluation techniques and practices.
    • Good knowledge and experience regarding gender mainstreaming; moderation, facilitation and training skills and demonstrated ability to liaise and negotiate with government and social partners.
    • Ability to perform a variety of conceptual analyses required for the formulation, administration and evaluation of projects.
    • Ability to work with word processing and spreadsheet software, as well as computer software packages required for work; good record keeping and information processing skills.
    • Team player with ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals;
    • Time management and work organization skills;
    • Ability to work with confidential material.

 

Eligibility

This vacancy is open to Ethiopian Nationals only who have not undertaken an internship with the ILO or have not previously worked for the ILO.
