As a volunteer, you will:

  • Design and implement sectoral nutrition capacity building activities for WASH Committee / water use committee

  • Conduct household access to water and provide advisor support in improving Households / community access to safe drinking in the zone

  • Conduct household water quality check and improvement activities in the zone

  • Assist in the design and implementation sewage and sewage management strategies, including personal hygiene, home sanitation and use of latrine campaigns

  • Design materials on critical handwashing and promote CLTSH processes to bring about behavioral change of the community

Essential Academic Qualifications:

MSc. degree in Water Resources Management, Sanitary Science, Environmental Health

Essential Professional Background:

  • Three years’ work experience in WASH and Nutrition interventions

  • Demonstrated work experience in improving access to drinking water and waste management

  • Hand on experience in design of water quality improvement strategies

Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and Representative to African Union (AU), Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD) and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the direct supervision of the Deputy Chief of Mission, and in coordination with the Head of Programmes and with the support of the Resources Management Unit (RMU) and the Emergency and Post Crisis (EPC) Unit in the IOM Office in Addis Ababa, the successful candidate will be responsible for the management and coordination of IOM programme and project activities in Ethiopia’s Gedeo (SNNPR), West Guji (Oromia) and nearby area, representing IOM at the local level for relevant meetings and interactions with local authorities and partners. S/he will be responsible for the administrative management of the IOM sub-office in Bule Hora, Ethiopia.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain and development strong relationships with programme partners in the area, such as local administrative authorities, local disaster risk reduction management authorities, relevant UN agencies, cluster groups and others concerned, with the objective of coordinating and promoting IOM activities and facilitating their implementation in the related Sub-Office.

  2. In close coordination with the Resources Management Unit, oversee the administrative functions of the Sub-Office including but not limited to: a) Manage the Sub-Office and supervising staff and ensuring IOM rules and regulations are implemented; and internal control measures are in place to prevent any violations of IOM rules and regulations; b) Monitor and supervise the financial expenditures of the Sub-Office; c) Ensure payments and fund management are in compliance with IOM financial and administrative policies and procedures.

  3. Supervise the procurement and logistic work in the Sub-Office, including contracts with suppliers of goods and services. Work closely with the IOM procurement and finance teams in Addis Ababa to ensure proper utilization of IOM resources.

  4. Plan and lead the Sub-Office project activities, while in coordination with the EPC unit and relevant units in Addis Ababa to ensure IOM standards.

  5. Represent IOM at inter-agency and other relevant meetings in the area including meetings with local Government authorities and technical working groups; receive and brief visitors from IOM’s donors or partners on IOM activities.

  6. Monitor project progress, identify challenges and bottlenecks and ensure corrective actions are taken whenever needed, document best practices and share lessons learned.

  7. Follow up on the developments of migration and emergency situations in the area/ local zones and advise the Chief of Mission and other colleagues concerned in IOM Addis Ababa on project opportunities, project development and other matters concerning IOM.

  8. Ensure the integration of cross-cutting issues such as gender, children and other vulnerable groups in the program/projects are properly reflected in the IOM interventions including humanitarian assistance to the displaced persons.

  9. Promote implementing IOM security requirements and UN Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS) / Minimum Operating Residential Security Standards (MORSS) requirements in the Sub-Office.

  10. Undertake duty travels as required, for project activities review and other duties.

  11. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

• Master’s degree in Development, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning, Social Sciences or a related field from an accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience; or

• University degree in the above fields with seven years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

• Operational and extensive field experience in programme development, implementation and evaluation;

• Experience in post-conflict/emergency zones and in working in a high-risk environment, project management and administrative and financial management (previous experience with IOM Shelter Programme an advantage);

• Experience in liaising with governmental authorities and local communities, as well as national

and international institutions;

• Broad sector knowledge and/or field experience in the areas of re-construction and community mobilization;

• Excellent demonstrated analytical skills applied on a wide range of factors, parameters, policies and priorities for the assessment and resolution of complex situations, including technical understanding.

Languages

Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.

The Position: The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Senior Accountant to provide efficient quality service in the field of finance and accounting for Housing and catering unit. Involve in all the financial transactions and maintain the internal control system in HCC to make sure ILRI financial regulations are adhered. Timely report should be submitted to all concerned regarding the outlets and front office transactions.

ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org

Main Responsibilities:
Club and cafeteria sales
  • Reviews the summary of the daily sales generated from the hotel system (IDS) and presents f or further verification to the service coordinator and approval of the HCC manager.
  • Ensures cash collection tallies with the summary of daily sales, is deposited intact to the bank, journalizes to the main accounting system and presents to the deputy finance manager for posting.
  • Ensures all internal sales are supported by internal orders by reconciling against the summary of the daily sales and posts the sales in the OCS.
  • Reconciles all credit sales to external customers against the summary of the daily sales, journalizes the income in OCS; ensures the same is charged to the customer ledger and presents the journal for posting to the deputy finance manager.
  • Ensures billing is always done prior to the delivery of services to the customer.
  • Reconciles credit sales against banquet order form, customer bills, internal order and the summary of daily soles.
  • Prepares food costing for the day to day issue. Produce a report on food costing daily, weekly and monthly basis and presents to the HCC manager.
  • Performs periodic stock verification.
  • Ensures all Zebu sales including membership is done through IDS. For membership sales make sure the list of members for which the sales are done in any given day is presented together with the daily sales summary.
  • Makes sure register of members is maintained and updated regularly with all the relevant information.
  • Ensures the club facilities are in use only by members and authorized persons by conducting surprise checks and reconciliation against the authorized members list.
Housing unit sales
  • Reviews the night audit report at the beginning of each working day and
  • Ensures all transactions including services offered to customers by the club and cafeteria are correctly booked to IDS guest account.
  • Obtains room discrepancy report to ensure that the house-keeping and front desk office have documented reasons and explanations for discrepancies.
  • Reviews rate report and checks any rate which is unusual to the source of reservation obtaining justification and explanation when necessary.
  • Reviews the night audit revenue and cashiers’ reports.
  • Reconciles daily cash sales against the revenue and cashiers reports and cash receipt, ensures the cash collected is deposited intact to the bank and then journalizes in OCS and presents for posting to the deputy finance manager.
Account analysis and reporting
  • Generates receivables reports from OCS and IDS and perform reconciliation justifying discrepancies and adjusting where necessary. Presents the reconciliation statement together with aging report for review to the deputy finance manager and approval to the HCC manager and the country finance manager.
  • Before monthly closing analyses the transactions posted in the OCS and ensure all recharges are recorded property.
  • Prepare income — expenditure and budget variance reports and provide justification and analysis for the variance between the budget and the actual income and expenditure.
  • Checks and verifies the manager report generated by the housing assistant.
  • Actively participates in annual budget preparation including and revenue proposal activities.
Payments
  • Verifies the payments requests of the HCC unit do have sufficient/appropriate supporting evidence are mathematically correct, authentic, comply with policy and procedures.
  • Analyses and assigns appropriate and applicable account codes, cost center codes and project codes and preparing for data entry.
  • Inputs transactions into the computer system from the documents earlier prepared and generating transaction listings, which serve as payment vouchers for checking and approval.
  • Follow up processing of payments to suppliers within the credit period.
  • Performs matching of the invoice with the PO and GRN.
  • Verifies the summary and the supporting documents presented for petty cash replenishment are sufficient and appropriate.
  • Replenish petty cash within 4 days after the receipt of the petty cash summary report and supporting documents.
  • Conduct periodic petty cash verification through quarterly cash count and reconciliation.
Others
  • Reviews and ensures that all internal control and policies relating to accounts payables, accounts receivables, cashiering, inventory control and store keeping, casual labor payroll are maintained and adhered to.
  • Attends to queries of internal and external parties regarding the responsible areas
  • Advises HCC Manager on any outstanding issues in the responsibility areas.
  • Keeps files of all relevant documents
  • Acts as a dual custodian of the Institute’s unused cheque
  • Act as a duty manager whenever required.
  • Undertakes any other assignment that may be given by the supervisor.
Academic and professional qualifications:
Education: BA degree in Accounting, Finance or related fields, MBA degree in Accounting or Finance or any Accounting Qualifications such as ACCA, CPA is a plus.
Experience:
  • BA degree plus 5 years or MBA degree plus 2 years’ experience working in a finance related environment in an international or renowned hotel.
  • Work experience at least in part in an international NGO or an international organization.
  • Experience as income auditor is advantageous
Training: Intermediate to advanced computer literacy, including spreadsheets and accounting software
Skills:
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting software required
  • Excellent spoken and written English.

Grade: 2D
Minimum Base Salary: Birr 24,572 (Negotiable depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate)

Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position, initial appointment is for three years with the possibility of renewal. contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. Project Manager

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking to hire a Project Manager who will be responsible for the day-to-day management and implementation of the GEF project, including all project administrative matters and substantive outputs. All work of the Project Manager will be corned out in line with the Country Programme Action Plan and in full compliance with UNDP Rules and Regulations. Qualification and experience: Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Project Management, Economics, Environmental Science, Geography and Environmental Studies, Chemical Engineering or other relevant fields.

Interested applicants must have at least 6 years of experience(4 years with Master’s Degree) experience in the areas of expertise, including solid knowledge of the management of POPs chemicals in Ethiopia and climate change mitigation (ideally including PCB management); familiarity with international protocols particularly Stockholm convention; experience in managing or participating in projects of similar complexity and nature, innovative implementation and financing mechanisms to achieve the project objectives and demonstrated experience and success in the engagement of, and working with, the private sector and NGOs, creating partnerships for activities of common interest.
