1. Livelihood and Business Development Officer/Project officer (# of position 1)

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible to plan and coordinate and also manage Omo Delta project and oversee the project HR issues and Financial management
• Prepare sound project operational plan against budget allocation
• Facilitate and ensure regular communication and maintain relationship with stakeholders and consortium members
• Ensure completion of all grant deliverables on time with the allocated budget
• Develop business schemes to diversified income for the target beneficiaries
• Ensure multiple interventions on thematic approach to bring intensified and visible changes in the community for long term resilience capacity
• Facilitate skill development of target beneficiaries with special attention for youth and woman on income generation/business activities
• Ensure job creation opportunities are developed to reduce migration and displacement  

Job Requirements:

BSc or MSc Degree in Agricultural Economics, Rural Development, Economics, Business Management from recognized university/college or related field of study
Required Experience and Skill
• BSc 5 and MSC 3 years of relevant NGO experience in business development and experience in project management skills
• Reporting writing technical skill is essential
• Proficiency in written and spoken in English and Amharic languages is mandatory and speaking local language is plus
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and report writing skill
• Working with team spirit is highly required
• Coordination and leadership skill is essential

2. Driver Mechanic (#of position 1 )

Major Duties and responsibilities
• Support project implementation through providing transportation services
• Implement vehicle management procedures and regulations
• Ensure vehicle annual inspection and third party insurance are properly managed  

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience
• Completion of vocational school and Diploma in Auto mechanic and 5 years working experience
• Field vehicle driving license is essential

3. Senior Accountant

Addis Ababa

Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Following EU grant management procedures maintain appropriate computerized financial management system for control and reporting
• Prepare periodic financial reports to donor agency and concerned bodies
• Provide technical support to the field office on the application of computerized accounting system
• Prepare cash flow and financial forecast to ensure sound financial planning for the fiscal year
• Ensure financial transactions are documented for reference and periodical auditing
• Ensure bank reconciliation, cash management, financial closing, tax compliance, payroll management, receipts and payments, auditing, inventory management are in place  

Job Requirements:

Required Education:
• BA or MBA Degree in accounting/financial management from recognized university/college Required Experience and skill:
• BA 5 and MBA 3 years NGO working experience in accounting/financial management • Proficiency in computerized accounting system
• Experience in donor funded grant management-preferably EU fund
• Ability in speaking and writing English language

4. Admin Accountant

Job Descriptions
• Maintain computerized accounting system in line with the consortium financial management procedures
• Prepare journal entries, monthly and quarterly financial statements • Maintain balance sheet and ledger accounts and bank reconciliations
• Prepare periodic financial reports of the consortium members in the location
• Tax computations in compliance with the government regulations
• Perform payroll activities incompliance with the existing procedures
• Manage receipt and disbursements for project fund  

Job Requirements:

Major duties and responsibilities:
  • Takes the major role to provide driving functions for AHF-Ethiopia programs mainly outreach HIV Counseling & Testing, Kolfe Clinic activities, public health facilities support, and mobile VCT services
  • Maintains vehicle logbook, submit monthly logbook summary sheet, accounting for all mileage and fuel consumption/ costs, minimizes fuel cost
  • Drives safely and responsibly at all times in respect and compliance with driving/traffic and parking rules and regulations of the Government of Ethiopia
  • Ensure that the outreach VCT vehicle under your care is secured from loss or damage at all times, maintain vehicle in good mechanical order and cleanliness
  • Reports damages, abuse, repairs and arranges any replacements immediately with approval from the immediate supervisor
  • In collaboration with the Logistics Assistant, arrange travel schedule of other vehicles of the office to facilitate well-organized utilization
  • Participate in the procurement of certain office supplies, fuel coupon for car and generator, and delivers all goods to the respective departments
  • Help in the delivery of messages, letters, postages, and other items to-and-from respective partner organizations or service delivery units
  • Regularly check the organizations postal box and deliver received items to the immediate supervisor
  • Help in times of work emergencies whenever there is a need during off-work hours
  • Assist in ensuring continuous security of AHF-Ethiopia offices and clinics through liaising with the contracted security agency; Inform any malfunctions to the immediate supervisor
 

Job Requirements:

  • Valid 3rd grade driving license with at least three-years working experience with NGOs working in Ethiopia; Having further educational level may be considered as an added advantage
  • Experience or education in areas of logistics management
  • Exposure to work environments dealing with HIV/AIDS or health programs is preferred
  • Enjoys working as a member of a cohesive multi-cultural team, and is good at doing so
  • Basic computer/software skills and abilities required
  • Good communication skills in English and Amharic

1.     Producer / Trainer

BBC Media Action:

BBC Media Action uses media and communication to reduce poverty and as a force for positive social change. To achieve this, BBC Media Action partners with civil society, local media and governments to:

Produce creative programmes in multi-media formats, based on robust research, which inform and engage audiences around key development issues.

Strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure.

BBC Media Action has been working in Ethiopia since 2001 across a range of health, resilience and livelihoods issues. In 2016 we reached 21 million people with our programmes. Our activities and training increase knowledge and shape practices in ways that help our audiences to improve their wellbeing and livelihoods.

BBC Media Action is expanding its portfolio of work in Ethiopia. To support this new work, BBC Media Action is expanding its team in Ethiopia to ensure that projects are delivered to time, to budget and to the highest standards, in accordance with BBC editorial values as well as BBC Media Action methodologies.

Overall Purpose of Job

As part of a creative team, produce high quality radio drama, public service announcements (or spots) and assist in the development and delivery of training and mentoring for partners on communication skills, and supporting a discussion programme to support improved sanitation and hygiene practices for babies and young children. The Producer will also support the development of accompanying discussion facilitation guides and may also work across BBC Media Action’s other production content, as required.

Main Duties:

Production:

Assist the Senior Producer / Trainer and relevant departments in all activities required to produce and distribute radio drama and spots on time and within budget:

  • Support the production of a mini-drama series in Afaan Oromo and/or Amharic , based on research and developed through BBC Media Action’s approach, maintaining high quality creative and professional standards throughout.
  • Conceptualise and produce high impact, creative Spots (Public Service Announcements) in Afaan Oromo and/or Amharic.
  • Undertake research to ensure outputs are relevant, relatable and true to life
  • Guiding the writing of engaging scripts based on BBC Media Action editorial values and drawing out creativity from artists and team members.
  • Commissioning music, writers, actors and other staff needed as part of production.
  • Work on-location and in the field.
  • Evaluate and respond to feedback from audiences in the form SMS or email.
  • Supply content to BBC Media Action’s website, reflecting key achievements of project.
  • Use a range of audio and digital equipment, recording and editing in single track and multi-track to the highest professional standards (training will be given if necessary).
  • Be willing to take on new or different roles, including working across the organisation’s range of communications outputs, as required.

Training:

With the Senior Producer/Trainer, design and deliver training programmes for partners:

  • To work with production teams from a variety of cultural backgrounds, languages, seniority and technical ability in order to improve the production quality of radio programmes at partner radio stations and increase audience engagement. This requires strong production skills in creating, researching, and planning, recording and editing broadcast content, particularly related to discussion and call in shows.
  • Establish and maintain good relationships at all levels within a partner station.
  • To help originate, research, prepare and produce interviews, discussions, and complete programmes
  • Administrative responsibility for collecting and logging the progress of trainees, and reporting to BBC Media Action Ethiopia management to inform future training strategy.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to explain complex ideas in a clear and engaging way, and draw on a variety of ways to demonstrate new ideas.
  • Responsibility to represent BBC Media Action across Ethiopia’s media organisations.

Administration:

Plan and take responsibility for the efficient use of allocated resources and production budgets:

  • Understand simple budgeting and keep track of expenditure.
  • Comply with BBC Media Action systems for documenting and reporting production and training. 
  • Diligently log and file all documents relating to programmes such as running orders, scripts and reports, and demonstrate individual authority and leadership in responsible management of shared resources including the shared drive and contacts database.
  • Play an active role in managing administrative and logistical requirements of production including travel, risk assessments and finances.

REPORTS TO:  Senior Producer, Ethiopia                         

DURATION:   7 months (with possible extension)

CONTRACT:  Local terms and conditions. Only eligible for Ethiopian Nationals or those legally able to work in Ethiopia. This contract is dependent on funding. 

Job Requirements

Required skills, knowledge and experience:

  • B.A and two years’ relevant experience, or Diploma and four years’ relevant experience in radio production, drama or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the complexities of behaviour change and communication.
  • An appreciation of the power of music and drama in people’s lives.
  • Ability to spot a good storyline and identify people who can communicate this well to others.
  • Keen interest in rural communities, their health and quality of life.
  • Ability to communicate and help others to communicate with accuracy and clarity.
  • Ability to breakdown complex ideas so that they are easy to understand and apply for training.
  • At least basic understanding of budgets and planning activities.
  • Fluency in Amharic and/or Afaan Oromo is essential.
  • Functional written and spoken English.
  • Good keyboard/computer skills.
  • Experience in training others is desirable.

2.     Production Team

Are you a media professional interested in working in development?

BBC Media Action has six new posts as part of an Afaan Oromo / Amharic language child health project: two Senior Producer/Trainers, two Producer/Trainers, and two Assistant Producers. The objective of the project is to help reduce baby and infant illness by encouraging people to adopt healthier water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) practices when caring for young children.

This team will produce and launch a new radio magazine show and a radio mini-drama series, and produce radio spots (i.e. public service announcements) to be broadcast on our partner stations. The team will also develop and deliver training to partner organisations and help produce related printed materials. 

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience:

  • Substantial experience in producing magazine programming and/or drama for radio, TV or other platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and people management skills.
  • Experience of leading and managing talent and production teams, and managing diverse teams (for Senior Producers).
  • An extensive knowledge of the needs of the Oromia and/or Amhara audience.
  • As many of the programmes to be produced will be in Afaan Oromo , at least two members of the team must have excellent knowledge of written and spoken Afaan Oromo.
  • All members of the team must have a very good command of Amharic and English. 

 

3.     Assistant Producer

Overall Purpose of Job:

As part of a creative team, to assist in the production of high quality radio magazine programmes,  drama, public service announcements (or spots) and assist in the development and delivery of training and mentoring for partners on communication skills, and supporting a discussion programme to support improved sanitation and hygiene practices for babies and young children.  

Main Duties:

Production:

  • To research and produce interviews and reports for a weekly radio magazine programme, maintaining high creative and professional standards. Please note, there are two version of this magazine programme –  one is in Amharic and the other in Afaan Oromo. Assistant Producers are not expected to work on both unless they are completely bilingual.
  • Help evaluate and respond to feedback from audience in form of letters, SMS or email
  • Be willing, if required, to produce entertaining drama segments
  • Help supply content to BBC Media Action website, reflecting key achievements of project
  • Able to use a range of audio and digital equipment, recording and editing in the single track and multi-track. (If necessary training will be given.)
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of BBC editorial values and ability to put the same into practice
  • Appreciation of role of budgets and efficient use of resources in the production process
  • Be willing to take on new or different roles, as required

Administration:

  • Understand simple budgeting and keep track of expenditure
  • Assist Producers and Senior Producers in logistical and administrative duties of production.

The Sustainable Land Management Program (SLMP) is one of the Flagship programs of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the Ethiopian government. It has been designed under the long-term (2009-2023) Ethiopia Strategic Investment Framework for Sustainable Land Management (ESIF) and the Agricultural Sector Policy and Investment Framework (PIF). Ethiopia Public Health Institute (EPHI) Vacancy Announcement

Background

Ethiopia Public Health Institute (EPHI) is nationally mandated institute to lead public health research on national and sub-national priority health problems. EPHI is establishing a National Data Management Center (NDMC) with the vision to be center of excellence in generating and synthesis evidence on public health and biomedical sciences for Ethiopia. The goals of the center are to create a sustainable data management and evidence synthesis system for epidemiological and burden of disease researches, evaluation studies, disease control priority and biomedical research data for Ethiopia. This is to build databases, data management, evidence synthesis approaches on health and health related data through pooling all available data in the country and abroad focusing to Ethiopia. The ultimate goal of the national data management center is to maximize the utilization of available data related to health and to fill the gaps on evidence informed health decision through rigorous scientific methods application at national and sub-national levels. Through its units, the center will continuously collect and store all available health related data, synthesis available health related evidence from local and international research and academic institutes, agencies, manage and process the data and measure health progress and health loss due to different health conditions with the applications of robust scientific methods and provide timely quality evidence for partners.

1.     Research Data Entry Clerk 

Ethiopian Public Health Institute/EPHI/would like to invite qualified, competent and interested applicant for the Research Data Entry Clerk positions.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Be able to review documents before entering the data and consult data manager if any incomplete, inconsistent or illegible data exist.
  • Be able to develop data entry plan with the team based on priorities, timely compile and sort data for entry.
  • Perform data entry, data cleaning using CSPro/ SPPSS/ STATA / Excel or any data entry format
  • Ensure data quality using different techniques such as comparing entered data with source documents, or re-enters data if error is detected, inspect, clean, transform, and model data
  • May compile, sort, and verify accuracy of data to be entered.
  • Review data sources and follow standard procedures given by the data manager for resolution.
  • Maintain data entry requirements through data program techniques and procedures.
  • Be able to verify entered data using different techniques such as reentering data; combining data, eliminate duplication of data.
  • Tests system changes and upgrades by inputting new data; reviewing output.
  • Secures information by completing data base backups.
  • Maintains confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  •  Keep record of work completed.
  • Demonstrated communication skills
  • Familiar with  existing data sharing policy and practices  
  • Knowledge of computer systems and operations
  •  Knowledge of data entry methods and procedures
  •  Ability to organize and schedule data entry work
  •  Ability to operate computer software packages relevant to the work
  • Skill in the operation of computer and peripheral equipment
  •  Basic secretarial knowledge

 Required Number: 2 (Two)

Report to: Data Manager

Duration: One year with possible extension

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience:

  • BSc degree in the following fields (Health informatics/Information Technology, biostatistics/statistics or demography or mathematics)
  • Must have 2 years and more demonstrated data clerk experience.

 

2.     Data Manager

Ethiopian Public Health Institute/EPHI/would like to invite qualified, competent and interested applicant for the Data Manager positions.

Duties and responsibilities

Data Management

  • Be able to discover efficient ways to organize, store and analyze research data with attention to security and confidentiality
  • Having advanced data management skills, strong understanding of databases and data analysis procedures
  • Ability to develop and implement Data Management Plan (DMP) and procedures
  • Ability to ensure data flows timely and securely to and from NDMC as well as within NDMC
  • Be able to use statistical software such as CISPRo, EPI-Info, Stata, SPSS, R etc.
  • Be able to develop data entry platforms, data dictionary using the above software
  • Familiar with  existing data sharing policy and practices  
  • Be able to establishes data quality standards and works with reporting research institutes to ensure standards are met
  • Ability to prepare datasets and respond to data request
  • Ability to develop data tracking mechanisms from different data sources
  • Having advanced statistical knowledge and skills
  • Ability to analyze heterogeneous epidemiologic data, surveillance data, evaluation data, biomedical data or any health related data
  • Be able to enforce institutional and national data sharing policies for effective data management
  • Ability to develop and maintains a public access or limited access data research portal

Communication and coordination skills

  • Demonstrated inter personal communication skills
  • Ability to present NDMC data management approaches to national and international workshops and conferences as needed
  • Able to coordinate and facilitate data mapping, digitizing, andcentralizing existing and new data sources in the country 

Mentor ship and supervision

  • Be able to supervise data encoders
  • Be able to provide training to  the data encoders
  • Ability to supervise different data sources in the country.

Required Number: 1 (One)

Report to: NDMC Director

Duration: One year with possible extension 

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience:

  • MSc. degree in the following fields  (Biostatistics/statistics or demography with IT background, computer science with statistics background, or health informatics with biostatistics/statistics background)
  • Must have 2 years and more with proven experience as data manager.
