Software Developer/Computer Programer

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Also known as computer programmer with a key role of designing, installation, testing, and maintenance of computer programs and integrating software as per the requirements of the organization. He is responsible for writing and coding individual programs or providing an entirely new software resource.

  • Code and test software based upon software specifications and design
  • Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in existing software
  • Analyze and study complex systems requirements
  • Design, re-design and improve the website of the company
  • Create efficient, scalable, and up-gradable software applying three-tier logic and architecture to be coded with the most efficient programming language available
  • Create interfaces of the developed systems in required practical platforms such as the web and/or mobile
  •  Establishing possible options for deriving the best IT solutions based on sound analytical judgment, team input, and the company’s best interest
  • Perform requirement analysis, gap analysis, and feasibility studies to ensure the viability and practicability of recommended IT solutions for the company
  • Create and design databases, views, and stored procedures and/or re-engineer and improve existing database used in the current system
  • Establish and implement an efficient procedure for data migration as needed
  • Manage and configure application and database servers with regards to administration and tuning
  • Suggest upgrades, installation, and application of efficient available software and systems for company use
  • Prepare design documentation
  •  Write and maintain technical documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, and corrections
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with stakeholders throughout the organization
  • Assess, troubleshoot, document, upgrade and develop maintenance procedures
  • Prepare and assist in training and/or user support activities as needed
  • Perform other duties required by immediate superior

Job Requirements

  • A minimum of Bsc Degree in computer Science, IT and other related discipline 
  • Minimum experience of five years in relevant areas
  • Expertise in current computer hardware and software
  • Ability to use one or more development language (C++, PHP, HTML, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Eye for detail and identifying problems
  • An understanding of business
  • Analytical and commercial experience

Role overview

We are seeking to recruit a project manager for the event, whose primary responsibilities will include:

  • Relationship and stakeholder management, network development: managing the relationships of stakeholders to ensure the widest possible engagement with and reach for the project, developing networks that will benefit this project
  • Sponsorship and fundraising: seeking and sourcing funds for the delivery of this project through a variety of means and innovative approaches to engaging funding partners and finding appropriate sources of grant-funding
  • Event management and logistics: management and oversight of event logistics (including but not limited to pre-event registration, calls for proposals and related events) to exceptional time and quality standards and expectations, and advising on the pre- and post-event programme
  • Coordination of event design and content development: the project manager will co-ordinate closely with the programme and content development team (Social Enterprise Ethiopia, British Council, representatives of international social enterprise agency) and the British Council events management team, and will liaise with other key stakeholders (speakers, sponsors, partners) to ensure they are aligned with the event objectives and expectations

The Optometrist officer as part of the team will play a key role in implementing the School Eye Health Project, assisting the coordinator in training teachers in vision screening, refraction and dispensation of spectacles at school sites located mainly in Addis Abeba and sometimes to semi-rural areas of Amhara region. In addition, will work within the budget and to agreed KPIs.

Primary duties and responsibilities

The Optometrist Officer performs a wide range of duties including some or all of the following:
Technical Duties

  • Check screening venue and measure and mark the screening distance;
  • List children to be screened, their gender and age;
  • Maintain a record of those screened and those referred;
  • Follow up those who have/have not gone for treatment;
  • Screen all children shortlisted by the teachers and record findings;
  • Ensure children who fail screening are referred for refraction;
  • Conduct refraction at school site and record prescription;
  • Collects spectacles, deliver them to the schools and works with contact teacher to ensure the correct children are given the correct spectacles.
Administrative Duties:
  • Maintains close communication with Project Coordinator and Program Manager;
  • Assist in planning all aspects of implementation;
  • Assist in developing a Standard Operating Manual;

Vita has been legally registered in Ethiopia in 2005 under the Ministry of Justice and later re-registered under Charities and Societies Agency.
Vita, in collaboration with regional, zonal, and woreda level government offices, is implementing a project entitled Livelihood Enhancement through Agriculture for Resilience Network (LEARN) in SNNPR (Gamo Gofa zone) and Amhara (South Gonder zone), Ethiopia. The project is funded by Irish Aid and Australian Foundation for Asia and Pacific/Action on Poverty (AFAP/AoP).
As part of the project implementation Vita Ethiopia country office has planned to undertake a potato value chain assessment for its potato intervention both in Gamogofa and Debre Tabor zones. Hence, the organization would like to invite knowledgeable and well experienced consultancy firm for undertaking a potato value chain assessment.

Job Requirements:

The technical experts that will be assigned by the firm should possess a Master’s degree from renowned academic institutions in the areas of Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Rural development, Development Economics, or in related fields of studies; At least 5 years of experience in value chain, sub sector analysis, good understanding of private sector and trade policies including market dynamics.

As part of the project implementation Vita Ethiopia country office has planned to undertake a climate smart agricultural activities identification assessment that will be practical for high land agro-ecology zone of the project areas at which the LEARN project is currently implementing. Job Requirements:

Description of the Assignment
Selam secured a three-year project called “Culture Leads the Way” from Sida which is going to be implemented in Addis Ababa, Amhara, Tigray, Oromia and SNNPR regions. The goal of the project is to deepen and strengthen participation of youths (18-35) in development processes through culture expressions mainly through Music, Film, Media and Circus. Through out the project period various partners such as federal and regional governmental authorities, Universities, Civil Society organizations and private institutions will be involved.

For the proper implementation of this project Selam Ethiopia is going to in place regional project coordinators for Bahirdar, Mekele, Hawasa, Dessie cities and open satellite offices in selected cities of the four regions.  
Scope of the Assignment
Under the supervision of the head office in Addis Ababa, regional project coordinators will take assignments to properly implement Selam’s activities in regional cities, and to keep smooth communication with partners, governmental authorities and project target groups in their perspective regions. Coordinators are also expected to properly manage all program, financial and administrative issues of each satellite offices as well as they are expected to fully engaged in planning and reporting processes as per the head offices demand and procedures.

  • Sensitize head teachers;
  • Logistics planning and
  • Maintain database/ records of children screened and referred.
Primary duties and responsibilities

The Optometrist Officer performs a wide range of duties including some or all of the following:
Technical Duties
  • Identifies and liaise with contact teacher;
  • Train teacher screeners in vision screening;
  • Liaises with class teachers to ensure flow of children for screening;
  • Check screening venue and measure and mark the screening distance;
  • List children to be screened, their gender and age;
  • Maintain a record of those screened and those referred;
  • Follow up those who have/have not gone for treatment;
  • Screen all children shortlisted by the teachers and record findings;
  • Ensure children who fail screening are referred for refraction;
  • Conduct refraction at school site and record prescription;
  • Collects spectacles, deliver them to the schools and works with contact teacher to ensure the correct children are given the correct spectacles.
Administrative Duties:
  • Maintains close communication with Project Coordinator and Program Manager;
  • Assist in planning all aspects of implementation;
  • Assist in developing a Standard Operating Manual;
  • Coordinates training of screeners;
  • Assist in facilitating payment for vendors and partners;
  • Coordination and collaboration with partners, sensitization of other stakeholders;
  • Monitoring: ensure regular reporting; compilation; use indicators to identify problems;

Background Information
Selam is an international NGO (non-governmental organization) that works on the thematic area of culture with the vision to promote social change through the enabling and empowering aspects of cultural life. Selam holds a unique position in Ethiopia by functioning as a prominent actor within civil society and the culture sector and by managing culture as a tool for social development. The role of Selam benefits from the fact that duty bearers have a generally positive attitude towards the cultural field, while it also has the capacity to engage a large number of the society.
Description of the Assignment
Selam secured a three-year project called “Culture Leads the Way” from Sida which is going to be implemented in Addis Ababa, Amhara, Tigray, Oromia and SNNPR regions. The goal of the project is to deepen and strengthen participation of youths (18-35) in development processes through culture expressions mainly through Music, Film, Media and Circus. Through out the project period various partners such as federal and regional governmental authorities, Universities, Civil Society organizations and private institutions will be involved.

For the proper implementation of this project Selam Ethiopia is going to in place regional project coordinators for Bahirdar, Mekele, Hawasa, Dessie cities and open satellite offices in selected cities of the four regions.  
Scope of the Assignment
Under the supervision of the head office in Addis Ababa, regional project coordinators will take assignments to properly implement Selam’s activities in regional cities, and to keep smooth communication with partners, governmental authorities and project target groups in their perspective regions. Coordinators are also expected to properly manage all program, financial and administrative issues of each satellite offices as well as they are expected to fully engaged in planning and reporting processes as per the head offices demand and procedures.
