Terms of Employment:Fixed term contract until April 30, 2018

The Camp Officer will be based in the HI Gambella office, with regular/daily travels to the refugee camps. S/he will be working under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and hold responsibilities for the smooth facilitation and coordination of all HI activities in the Nguenyyiel refugee camp. The Camp Officer will also hold the responsibilities for the daily follow up and implementation of activities directly involving beneficiaries.

Responsibilities 

  • Develop weekly and monthly plans for the camp activities of HI in close collaboration with the PM
  • Facilitate and arrange required logistics around the implementation of all HI activities in the camps in close collaboration with the HI team
  • Collaborate on and assist colleagues with the implementation of HI activities in the camp
  • Participate in and facilitate the organization of the disability data collection in the camp
  • Participate, in collaboration with the HI team in Gambella, in the development of the disability assessment tools and the collection of disability data in the camp
  • Establish, follow up, train and guide protection self-help groups for refugees with disabilities and other vulnerable persons
  • Establish, follow up and facilitate training for the refugee accessibility committee
  • Facilitate accessibility audits with the accessibility committee when required
  • Participate in camp coordination meetings in the camp
  • Manage on a daily basis 4 social/incentive workers from the camp
  • Assist the Mainstreaming officer in the mapping of implementer and services in the camp
  • Any other duties assigned
  • Compile and submit monthly and quarterly reports to the project manager.
  • Prepare and submit monthly time sheet
Job Requirements:  

Education:

Degree in Disability Studies, Social Sciences, Education, Special Needs Education, Community Development or other relevant fields in line with the Job

Experience:

·         At least 2 years of experience working with INGOs or NGOs

·         Previous experiences working with an NGO in the field of disability

·         Experience working in a refugee context is an added advantage

Competencies/Knowledge, Ability and Skill:

·         Strong team player

·         Strong coordination, collaboration and organizational skills

·         Good coaching capacities

·         Good capacities to transfer knowledge in difficult cultural & political contexts

·         Good level of writing/reading English

Mercy Corps Ethiopia seeks enthusiastic, intelligent and ambitious female graduate and post-graduates who are passionate about international development.  This position will provide the intern an opportunity to develop their professional skills and expand their knowledge on gender mainstreaming tools and strategies in community-driven development while supporting the country program towards rigorous learning to develop strategies to address gender issues in its programing. This internship will also support the country office’s efforts towards improving female recruitment and retention.

The intern will be provided with technical guidance to understand organization’s effort to address gender mainstreaming in it human resource development/staffing and implementation of different programs from a Mentor.  At the beginning of the internship period, the intern will receive orientation on Mercy Corps’ mission, vision, strategy and programming.  She will work with her mentor on professional skills development goals, and activities and responsibilities related to achieving these goals; she will also work with program and gender advisory team on technical skill-development goals, and activities and responsibilities related to achieving these goals.

At the end of the internship period, the combined professional and technical skills development plan will be the milestones against which the internship will be evaluated and will be the basis of a strong recommendation letter for future employment.  The intern will also be interviewed to assess the degree to which the internship period helped her to achieve her professional goals.

SCOPE OF WORK

·         Review documents and meet MC program and operation staffs to learn and document how MCE integrate and address gender issues in its human resource development/staffing and implementation of program activities

·         Identify major gaps and challenges observed in addressing gender issues in MCE

·         Keep and compile the data for staffing and retention progress, present on learning hour

·         Working with Human Resource department  

·         Review and compile experiences and best practices from other organizations on addressing gender equity in human resource development/staffing and program activities  

·         Take part and Facilitate  the gender working group meetings/discussions

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 

By the end of the internship, the intern will have developed the following knowledge and experience:

·         becomes familiar with Mercy Corps Ethiopia program activities and organizational effort and approaches to mainstream gender in its human resource development/staffing and program activities implementations

·          learn tools and strategies used by different organization to address gender issues in their programing and human resource development

Job Requirements:  

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:  

·         Fresh First Degree in Management, Sociology, Gender Studies, Social Studies or related discipline.

·         Advanced computer skills in MS Office programs, particularly in Excel

·         Excellent oral and written English skills

Purpose of the position:

To support Government staff and WV nutrition team for the smooth and accurate running of the CMAM program through planning, capacity building and supervision follows the national CMAM protocol.

Major Responsibilities:

·         Coordinate and take part in the CMAM trainings that will be conducted for health workers and health extension workers. 

·         Assist ADP facilitators in facilitating trainings and motivating volunteer community health workers in identification, referral and follow up of malnourished children

·         Provide on the site technical support for stabilization centers, outpatient therapeutic program sites and mobilization of community

·         Take part in MoH-led monthly review meetings with SC and OTP site health workers and woreda health office staff

·         Follow up timely request, approval, procurement and distribution of the project logistics, supply and equipment

·         Follow up utilization of project commodities, logistics and equipment

·         Take part in the project set-up, technical support visit, monitoring visits, surveys and evaluations

·         Follow up project progress as per the plan of work closely with the ADPs and identify minimum support package as part of the project transition

·         Take part in CMAM project meetings, workshops, prayer and devotions that will assist for technical and spiritual development

·         Perform other duties as assigned by the nutrition program coordinator

 

Job Requirements

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

 

  • BSc degree in Public Health/Nursing/Nutrition and related field of study

  • Minimum three years working experience with NGOs out of which one year in CMAM program;

  • Technical Training qualifications required:  relief and disaster management and development related, Experience in project design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and report writing.

  • Other:  Knowledge of local context.
