The Role

The Country Director provides strategic leadership and management of this large and high profile program, including all development and humanitarian programming to maximise our influence and impact.

The position is accountable to the Oxfam Regional Director for Horn, Eastern and Central Africa (HECA) for the delivery, effective management (which includes budgets and planning), monitoring and evaluation, and learning from the program.

The person

We are looking for a dynamic, charismatic and credible leader with the following:

· Master’s degree in relevant field

· Significant senior leadership and management experience in the development and delivery of high quality program, influencing and humanitarian strategy, with and through partners or directly, in one or more challenging locations

· Proven track record of applying new technologies to programming or make use of existing technologies to innovatively influence program design and delivery

· Proven track record in influencing at both grassroots as well as high international levels

· Experience in leading and motivating multi-disciplinary teams, operating in geographically remote locations.

· Proven records of successional investment in start-up programming to ultimately achieve impact at scale

· Committed to a rights-based approach including an active commitment to putting women’s rights at heart of all we do.

· Experience of managing complex change processes and relationships involving a wide range of both internal and external multi-cultural stakeholders across a variety of disciplines and geographical areas;

· A high degree of self-awareness and an understanding of how to drive and support excellent team performance and individual development in line Oxfam’s values and policies

· Proven track record of success in representing an organisation with partners; government agencies, private sector organisations, media and donors at senior level; national and globally

· Knowledge and understanding how institutions such as IGAD, AU, EAC etc. work and how these impact on Oxfam’s work in Ethiopia

· NGO Sector experience in the country or region, is an asset

Purpose of the Job

The Senior Director of Livestock Development is a senior executive level management position within the organization’s administration with the Senior Director serving on the senior management team of the Agency. His/her role will primarily involve managing and supporting Program Directors within the Livestock Development areas of the Transformation Agenda which include Livestock Genetic Improvement, Livestock Feed and Feeding, Livestock Health and Livestock Markets.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise and performance manage the Program Directors of the Livestock Development Vertical within the organization which includes Livestock Genetic Improvement, Livestock Feed and Feeding, Livestock Health and Livestock Markets.
  • Provide direction, guidance and support to the Program Directors of the above programs in order to ensure that high quality deliverables and outputs are created within each program, in line with the organization’s overall goals
  • Actively participate in diagnostic activities, solution design and development of policies, strategies and solutions developed by the Knowledge Centers in the Livestock Development Vertical
  • Support the Delivery Unit mechanism within the organization and organization’s pattern to facilitate close and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders/partners across problem solving and implementation support areas of the Transformation Agenda
  • Ensure that the organization’s Livestock Development Vertical programs provide sufficient support in the execution of the Agricultural Commercialization Cluster (ACC) Initiative
  • Support, enable and facilitate close and collaborative relationships between Program Directors and key stakeholders/partners across problem solving and implementation support areas
  • Critically assess capacity gaps that may hinder effective implementation of activities and develop solutions as required
  • Coordinate and harmonize the design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of programs and projects within the organization’s Livestock Development Vertical
  • Assist in building capacity of key government, private and informal actors in the education, research, extension and production continuum associated with the sub sector.
  • Deep understanding of Ethiopia’s agricultural system, with a good perspective on how the system operates and how public, private and informal actors interact within the system
  • Practical experience in implementing solutions at a local level
  • Support the organization in other operations or roles as required by the CEO
  • Facilitator of the required financial, human and organizational resources for the successful implementation of programs and projects
  • Provide guidance to and manage output of the staff within the Livestock Development Vertical and contribute to performance reviews and planning for their continued professional development

Education

  • Minimum MSc in Agriculture, Rural Development, Development or other relevant subject

Experience

  • At least 12 years’ experience in Livestock related role within government agencies, & minimum 6 years’ experience of a senior role.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Fluency in Amharic and English is essential and in at least one additional Ethiopian language is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong team player with outstanding management skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a constantly evolving and challenging environment
  • Self-starter and self-motivated person

Ethiopia: Cooperative Business Intern Consultant

Internship Description:

The Cooperative Business Intern Consultant is an 8-10 week summer internship position based in Arba Minch, Ethiopia working with Nuru International, and reporting to the Nuru International Field Team Leader. Flights and accommodations will be provided.

Nuru Ethiopia established the Hidota Cooperative Union (“the Union”) to provide enhanced business training, market access, and greater aggregation of raw materials for smallholder farmers in woreda’s within Gamo Gofa Zone, SNNP Region, Ethiopia. Nuru beneficiaries participate in Nuru programming through the Union’s affiliated primary cooperatives (PCs), which integrates impact programs that address the most prevalent and fundamental challenges of extreme poverty around four key areas of need: Agriculture, Financial Inclusion, Healthcare and Education.

The Union was established in 2016, and is operating in its first full season of independent management with Nuru International and Nuru Ethiopia direct support. In order for the Union to meet the needs of the smalholder farmers and primary cooperatives it supports there is a need to refine the Union’s short and long-term business plan and update local and national market analyses for key raw materials.

Timeline: 3 – 4 month commitment (preferably February – May 2018 but exact dates are negotiable)

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Co-create and refine current business plan with a focus on improving organizational management, logistics, and reporting

  • Develop and train on the necessary financial management tools to execute on the business plan

  • Market Analysis for new business opportunities (milling, pigeon pea, livestock, etc)

  • Conduct market research and analysis of national cooperative landscape (including policy, economic, and social dynamics)

  • Collect and analyze financial and other quantitative data

  • Carry out interviews and meetings with government officials, trade professionals, and customers

  • Submit regular progress reports

  • Travel through Ethiopia using public means will be required

Required Skills and Attributes:

  • Must have an MBA or currently be an MBA candidate.

  • Must be able to live and work in a developing country.

  • Must be able to work independently.

  • Must have strong Excel and financial modeling skills.

  • Must be able to conduct field-based research and analyze data.

  • Must be responsible, dependable, and results-oriented.

Desired Skills:

  • Previous experience running a business, starting up a business, developing a detailed business plan, working with agricultural commodities, or food manufacturing will be advantageous

  • Previous experience living and working in Ethiopia will be valuable

  • Previous consulting experience in either the private or social sector will be advantageous

Senior Accountant | Junior Accountant

Our company Smadl Communication Terminal Factory Plc is, currently seeking energetic, motivated and wilting to work with group of professional staff for the following positions.

1. Senior Accountant

Degree in Accounting
Experience: 6 years and above financial work experience, of which 3 years and above in manufacturing
Requirement:
  • Capable of handling financial annual report, monthly declaration etc. independently.
  • Be familiar with assets and warehouse management,
  • Professional in financial Ethiopian tax proclamation and related principles
  • Excellent oral and written English.
  • Good ability in using Peachtree Accounting software and Microsoft office application skill.

2. Junior Accountant

Degree/ Diploma and above in Accounting
Experience: 2 years and above in accounting
Requirement:
  • Good command of written and spoken English
  • Skilled in Peachtree Accounting software and Microsoft office
