  1. Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

       The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

  • Experience:  More than 2 years of experience in working in small and medium enterprises and development of smallholder agriculture for market purposes
  • Experience:  More than 2 years in areas of smallholder agriculture, small and medium enterprise development, women and youth economic empowerment, etc
  • Other: Exposure to food aid programs in the country, knowledge of lotus, Excel, MS Word and MS Access, PowerPoint
  • Experience of working with government office and government experience of economic development for the poor 
  • Experience of working on PSNP and emergency response programs as related to the management of food movement
  • Fluent in Afan Oromo is a requirement

 

  1. Working Environment / Conditions:
  • Work environment:  Office-based with frequent travel to the field
  • Travel:  90% Domestic/international travel is required.
  • On call:  10%

Health Assistant (12 positions)

Job Scope:

Under the direct supervision of emergency health officer, the Health Assistant is responsible to work and deployed as Mobile health and Nutrition Team (MHNT) in the IRC respective implementation woredas. Will carry out essential lifesaving primary health care services for hard to reach areas or Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in Oromia region. He/she will closely work with the Emergency health officer and indirectly with the Emergency manager/and or Mobile health and nutrition specialist as deemed.

Job Responsibilities:

Conduct all activities planned in the EHF funded project for MHNT components

Provide essential lifesaving primary health care services to communities who have no access to primary health care services and IDPs

Responsible to provide Community Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) activities to IDPs and people who have no access to the services. 

Conduct capacity building interventions to HEWs and community health workers and community mobilization activities with key Health messages.

Facilitate and Participate in carry out needs assessment for Health capacity building interventions.

Provide different trainings and workshops as per the plan

Perform all necessary actions to ensure the smooth functioning mobile health and nutrition activities.

Support woreda base health system in providing technical support to the health facilities.

Ensure integration of child protection, and child safeguarding principles in all project activities

Provide support in developing and implement a Community Based Communication Strategy

Work closely with other sectoral staff– WASH, Health to ensure integrated approach in program implementation in his/her woredas.

Participate woreda and zonal coordination meetings in the absence of emergency health officer

Write monthly/quarterly/annual reports about the project (MHNT) activities on timely bases

Any other task assigned by his/her supervisor.

Job Requirements

Requirements:

Degree or Diploma in Health fields such as Public Health Officer, Nursing and Midwifery.

Minimum of Three years for Diploma holders and One year for Degree holders.

Demonstrable experience in working with communities, and knowledge of participatory approaches.

Committed and strong attitude towards community empowerment.

Strong inter-personal skills with a proven ability to work as a team member under difficult conditions.

Good understanding of the Oromia cultural context

Afan Oromo language is a Must

Working knowledge of computers

The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) is an autonomous, non-profit making, international scientific organization operating under the aegis of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). More specifically its mission is to encourage, support and undertake activities to improve the productivity, profitability and sustainability of maize and wheat systems in the interest of the resource poor in developing countries.

Main duties & responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the implementation of on-going research projects in Ethiopia, particularly in relation to Enhancing Climate Change Adaptive Capacity and Food Security (ECCAFS) project under the Climate Adaptation and Rural Development (CARD) program implemented at Gimbi and Digga Districts, Western Ethiopia, and the socioeconomics components of DNA Fingerprinting project;
  • Contributes in designing and implementing field surveys and other socio-economic research activities;
  • Contributes in designing, implementing, monitoring and supervising Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) demonstration works in project sites;
  • Compiles, analyzes and rigorously document primary and secondary socioeconomic data sets.
  • Contributes in developing research reports, journal articles and policy briefs;
  • Guides, supports and monitors the regional NARES partners in planning and execution of collaborative research activities;
  • Pro-actively contributes, develops his/her skills and takes increasing responsibilities in all of the above;
  • Other reasonable duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.

Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Position level: 2D.

Minimum Base salary: Birr 21,367.00 per month (Negotiable depending on experience, skill and salary history of the selected candidate).
Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position, initial appointment is (fixed term) for two years with the possibility of renewal appointment contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. The ILRI remuneration package for nationally recruited staff in Ethiopia includes very competitive salary and benefits.

The ILRI campus is set in a secure, attractive campus in Addis Ababa. Dining and sports facilities are located on site.

Job Requirements:

Education: MSc degree from a recognized University in Agricultural Economics or any other related field in Applied Economics.
Training: Agricultural economics; agricultural development economics; development economics; resource economics; econometrics; research methods; policy analysis.
Experience:

  • At least three years of demonstrated experience in:
  • Designing and implementing surveys in rural settings (preferably household and market surveys Management and analysis of large socioeconomic datasets using standard statistical and econometric software (preferably SPSS and/or STATA); and working experience with smallholder farmers, development agents, and agricultural experts in implementing project activities in the field.

Skills and Core Competencies:

  • Good econometric skills are essential; combination of good analytical, writing and field work skills; scientific rigor, initiative, ability to work independently.

  • Knowledge of computer skill (MS Office, SPSS, STATA).
  • Driving license is an advantage.

  • Contributes in designing, implementing, monitoring and supervising Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) demonstration works in project sites;
  • Compiles, analyzes and rigorously document primary and secondary socioeconomic data sets.
  • Contributes in developing research reports, journal articles and policy briefs;
  • Guides, supports and monitors the regional NARES partners in planning and execution of collaborative research activities;
  • Pro-actively contributes, develops his/her skills and takes increasing responsibilities in all of the above;
  • Other reasonable duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Base salary: Birr 21,367.00 per month (Negotiable depending on experience, skill and salary history of the selected candidate).
Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position, initial appointment is (fixed term) for two years with the possibility of renewal appointment contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. As a Service Engineer, you are responsible for all maintenance issues within the hotel, daily maintenance checks, and repairing equipment to deliver an excellent Guest and Member experience.
