The U.S. Mission Addis Ababa is seeking an individual for the position of Senior Maintenance Supervisor in the Facility Service Office of the Embassy.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

Under the direct supervision of the Facility Manager provides coordination services between the Facility Maintenance Section and other embassy agencies/sections for the construction, alteration, maintenance and repair of NEC (New Embassy Compound) facilities, including 160 STL residences.  Plans projects, determines work requirements, schedules work, estimates material and equipment needs, orders materials, schedules transportation needs, inspects work and determines successful completion of projects.  Responsibilities also include supervision of posts 119 member of all trades of the maintenance staff that maintains all mechanical and electrical equipment throughout the Embassy’s buildings and grounds.  Coordinates with EFM secure escorts for escorts for maintenance in secure area.

Assists in the management in responses to both written and verbal requests for maintenance services and ascertains all of the necessary information to determine whether the work is of a routine, urgent, or emergency nature. Familiarization of general mechanical and electrical building systems is required.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

NOTE:  Applicants must address each required qualification listed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.  Failure to do so may result in a determination that the applicant is not qualified.

  1. Education:   Completion of college diploma in vocational training or apprenticeship recognized as producing journeyman mechanic in one of the major building construction trades groups (facility maintenance and repair, electricity, construction etc.) is required.
  2. Experience:   4 years of progressively responsible in the maintenance area of which 2 years as a supervisor in the maintenance field is required.
  3. Language:     Level III (Good working knowledge) in written and spoken English and Level IV (Proficiency) in written and spoken Amharic are required. (English Language proficiency will be tested).
  4. Skills and Abilities: Good knowledge of USG building codes, local building codes, climate, weather patterns, traffic patterns, local authorities, contractors, business community.  Good technical knowledge of trades.  Must have a 2nd grade drivers’ license and basic knowledge of Microsoft office suite.
  5. Knowledge:  Full journeyman building trades knowledge.

SELECTION PROCESS

Business Development Manager

The Position: The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) seeks to recruit a Business Development Manager who will be a member of CIMMYT Ethiopia located at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) Addis Ababa campus.

General: The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) is an autonomous, non-profit making, international scientific organization operating under the aegis of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). More specifically its mission is to encourage, support and undertake activities to improve the productivity, profitability, and sustainability of maize and wheat systems in the interest of the resource poor in developing countries.

Main duties & responsibilities:

  • Assess small-scale mechanization opportunities with special emphasis on service demand and supply at both country- and site-specific levels, including market and demand assessment and their implications for agribusiness development;
  • Take overall responsibility for business modelling aspects of the project;
  • Conduct economic/cost-benefit analysis of different farming practices for the major crops and of various scenarios of mechanization;
  • Develop training programs for rural youth group and individual mechanization hire service providers;
  • Conduct trainings in business management and machinery management for hire service providers;
  • Appraise and analyse the financial viability of the conservation-based mechanization technologies for small holder farmers;
  • Conduct roundtable meetings with importers/manufacturers and stakeholders to understand the opportunities and the constraints faced by value chain actors downstream in the small mechanization market system;
  • Identify inventory of financial institutions and financial product appropriate to rural service providers and lobbying for more appropriate financial products;
  • Provide technical support for effective management of hire service provider models;
  • Conduct business model performance study and technology adoption survey with implementing partners;
  • Prepare semi-annual and annual reports as required by different mechanization projects
  • Develop partnerships with private sector stakeholders to foster development of the machinery supply chain and collaborate closely with implementation partners and monitor and supervise their activities in the field.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • MA/MSc degree in Economics, Business management or a related field from a highly recognized university

Experience:

  • At least Five years of value chain development experience.
  • Experience in promotion and implementation of agricultural mechanization in Ethiopia
  • Business development and business modelling experience
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Marketing

Skills and Core Competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills including in spoken and written English

Minimum Base salary:  Birr 38,223.00 per month (Negotiable depending on experience, skill and salary history of the selected candidate).

The Political Participation Library (Biblioteca de participación política) is a compilation of 45 publications in Spanish on promoting gender equality policies at the local level.

Adapting the software of this library to Wordpress will allow to integrate it into the new Wordpress eLearning Campus of the UN Women TC and solve PHP programming errors.

- Propose a repository system -including a basic search feature- to compile the 45 publications.

- Implement the library in a development environment upon approval of the proposed methodology. Export and test it on the eLearning Campus website.
