SOS Sahel Ethiopia jointly with Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) has secured funding support from Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to implement a humanitarian response program namely:
"Joint Emergency Response for Drought Affected Communities in Arero and Wachile Woredas of Borena Zone, Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia." SOS Sahel Ethiopia, as part of its intervention is seeking to employ interested, qualified and experienced individual for the positions mentioned hereunder:

Position: Public Health Promotion (PHP) Officer
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
•Carry out public health promotion activities jointly with the project staff/WASH Officers, such as identification of beneficiaries for water, sanitation and hygiene, site selection, setting up mechanism
•Support in implementing the recovery/transition phase of the emergency WASH program focusing on promoting the communities resilience to future emergencies
•Proactively engage in increasing the usage of safe drinking water sources through supporting the construction and rehabilitation of water-schemes within communities

Experience/Competencies:
Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Environmental Science or other relevant fields of studies with 3 years or more practical experience in community health and environmental programs, preferably in emergency interventions. Hands-on experience of hygiene promotion and willingness to work in collaboration with others and respectful to the community.

Position: WASH Officer
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
•Actively promote safe WASH practices, including appropriate use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services
•Ensure appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WASH services and facilities
•Establishment of community water-committees to ensure community participation

Experience/Competencies
Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering or other related fields of studies with 3 years or more experience in water supply and sanitation development and Hygiene in emergency WASH response project/s. Desirable study of water treatment and sanitation methods and/or hygiene promotion, experience in practical on-site construction management; willing to support others and share workloads.

Position: Emergency Monitoring and Evaluation Officer
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
•Develop a very clear concept of monitoring and evaluation system with continuous and an ongoing discussion with all project components and partners
•Assisting the designing and implementation of monitoring and evaluation system in the project interventions in emergency and recovery context,
•Produce full documentation of M&E activities in order to record outputs and results and also fulfill government reporting requirements, in close consultation with the Project Coordinator

Experience/ Competencies:
Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Sociology or Economics or related fields of studies with 3 years relevant practical experience (preferably in the NGO). Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Excellent report writing skill in English

Position: Woreda WASH Emergency Officers
Required candidates: 2 (two)
•Under the supervision of the WASH Officer implement, supervise and monitor WASH field activities-water supply and basic sanitations
•Follow up installation of water tanks, latrines and centralized water system in different sites, provide technical advises and WASH orientation
•Working with the team, the post holder is responsible for assisting in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of WASH interventions in emergency and recovery context

Experience/Competencies:
Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Environmental Science/ I Health, Public Health, Hydraulics Engineering or related fields of studies with minimum of 3 or 5 years practical experience respectively. Knowledge in plumbing, water supply and water sanitation system. Experience in any WASH related activities and also in community mobilization and organization

Duty Station: for Position #1,2, &3 in Yaballo Town; For position #4 in the tow woredas (one each)
Salary: As per SOS Sahel Ethiopia salary scale

The longer term strategy of CORDAID in pastoral regions of Ethiopia is to strengthen the capacities of local communities to be prepared for, prevent and respond to emergencies as well as enhancing pastoral livelihood assets.

Currently Cordaid leads a consortia of multi-agency and multi-sector Partners for Resilience(PfR) Program which is aimed at “Building Resilience of rural communities through implementation of Integrated Risk Management Approach”. Objective of the position:
The project officer will have responsibility for the overall implementation, technical leadership, management and delivery of expected results of IRM(integrated Risk Management) in ‘Building Resilience of Vulnerable Communities in Drought- prone areas of Liben and Dhaawe Zones, Somali Region, Through Promotion of Integrated Risk Management (Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate’ Change Adaptation and Ecosystem Management and Restoration project in the 4 woredas: Dhekasuftu, Dolo-Ado, Mubarak and Moyale.
Areas of expertise/experience
  • Appropriate qualification at B.Sc. degree and above in Agriculture, DRR, Livestock management/Natural Resources Management
  • Good experience in policy dialogue interventions/policy research/policy processes
  • 5 years of experience working in NGO/Government with similar responsibilities
  • Technical and professional knowledge in ecosystem management/climate change adaptation and DRR
