The Fred Hollows Foundation, an international NGO founded in 1992 has been a driving force in the development and implementation of blindness prevention programs in some of the poorest and most isolated regions in the world. Currently operating in 25 countries throughout Africa, South Asia and South East Asia, The Foundation is working to end avoidable blindness. Our Ethiopia program and the ‘Stronger SAFE’ research program is focused on trachoma elimination.

In order to help us achieve our vision, we are currently looking for a Stronger SAFE Laboratory Technologist to be based at the ORHB Laboratory in Adama. The Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for conducting all the diagnostic laboratory work related to the Stronger SAFE research program in Oromia, Ethiopia.

To be successful in this position, you will have to complete BSc or equivalent diploma studies in Medical Laboratory Science from a recognized institution and have at least three years laboratory technical experience and current or recent (within the last three years) bench experience in research or clinical diagnostics.

Context : Ethiopia mission is one of the largest mission in ACF-France. The 2017 is around 15 million €. It has, in addition to Addis Abeba, 6 bases managing 30 to 35 projects funded by various donors such as ECHO, US donors, SIDA, GAC, French CIAA, UNHCR, UNICEF, HEF (former CHF), ACF… The context, though currently a bit tensed and volatile than usual, remains quiet, especially in Addis Abeba where this position is based. The finance team in Addis comprises of 5 to 6 staff, whose tasks need to be reorganised. A national HoD finance will be recruited and the expatriate will have to coach him.

The position: Under the supervision of the Country Director, you will have to ensure sound and transparent administration of funds by providing accounting and financial management consistent with the ACF financial management framework and local legislation. The current Finance Head of Department expatriate cannot stay longer. You will also have to train the national finance HOD which recruitment is still on going. More precisely, the main responsibilities will be:

  • Contribute to the definition of mission strategy
  • Ensure high quality accounting for the mission
  • Ensure high quality cash management for the mission
  • Provide financial and budgetary management
  • Promote and ensure financial collaboration and coordination with mission partners
  • Prevent and manage fraud and corruption
  • Establish living standards for the mission
  • Manage the Finance team in capital and be Technical/Support Manager of Finance Managers in the bases

The applicant: You hold a Master Degree in business administration/finance or similar degree. You have at least 2 years of experience in similar position (Finance Head of Department)/Finance Coordinator) more preferably with experience with ACF. You demonstrate a proven experience handling large turnover in complex administrative environment essential

Professional English mandatory

Status:

Gross monthly salary ranging from €1805 to €2305 depending on relevant experience

Food and hygiene expenses, per diem, transportation costs, collective or individual accommodation, medical insurance

25 days of annual paid leaves and 20 days of rest and recuperation (R&R) per year

The Economic Security Department (EcoSec) of The International Committee of the Red Cross Delegation in Ethiopia plays an active role within the Assistance Division, and is looking for a qualified candidate to fill up the following vacant position. The position is based in Harar.

Position Title: Veterinarian (Focus on Livestock Intervention)

Main Tasks

• Participates in planning, implementation and monitoring of specific EcoSec projects (emergency response; livelihood support through livestock and agricultural projects; MEI- micro economic initiatives – income generating activities).
• Helps to understand and analyze the general situation and humanitarian issues around project locations.
• Provides reports and establish statistical data according to procedures and timelines.
• Participates in/ conduct field trips as part of a team, or individually (autonomously).
• Conduct assessment and participates in the project cycle.
• Participates/contributes to various internal reports (activity reports, weekly highlights, monthly and quarterly EcoSec reports).
• Represents the ICRC in relevant meetings, seminars and workshops on livestock, agriculture, and relief response.
• Performs administrative tasks according to internal procedures.
• Observes and follows the ICRC code of conduct.
