Therefore, the pastoral and agro-pastoral population is supported in strengthening their drought resilience, by allowing them to adapt their production system to a changing natural and socioeconomic environment context in order to get a higher and more secured income. German development cooperation contributes to this goal with the “Strengthening Drought Resilience in Pastoral and AgroPastoral Areas of Somali Region Project” (SDR-SR) in selected pilot areas in Somali Region.
For its Strengthening Drought Resilience (SDR) program activities in Somali Region, GIZ is looking, for a Capacity Development Expert as per the detail below:

Position: Capacity Development Expert

Responsibilities:
  • Working under the supervision of the Regional Project Coordinator and the International Project Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for the development, planning and implementation of programs of capacity development (training, personal and institutional capacity development) for agents of the different levels of regional and local administration, for public and private service providers and local pastoral and agro-pastoral community members;
  • Supporting knowledge management of undertaken activities;
  • Contributing to internal and external communication with results of his/her field of intervention.
Tasks:
  • Actively participate in project planning and monitoring, annual operational planning, annual and subject specific monitoring in line with project objectives and aspired results;
  • Participate in regular team meetings in the region;
  • Build strong working relationships with other department heads within SDR-SR, with BoANRD, B0LPD, their woreda and kebele level offices and other relevant staff from administration at all levels;
  • Identify, plan and implement regional project activities in regard to capacity development of partners;
    • Assess capacity development needs concerning the natural resource management innovations introduced and related activities implemented by the project for all partner institutions;
    • Design tailored capacity development strategies for the partner institutions in this context;
    • Develop appropriate training modules to implement the strategies;

  • Organise the process of drawing lessons learned from the project’s pilot activities and ensure proper documentation and dissemination
  • Collaborate with the ATVET SDR team to develop training material and training modules for the adapted NRM approaches and techniques in collaboration with GodePolytechnical College;
  • Participate in elaborating quarterly and annual reports as requested by GIZ and/or MOA and regional partner structures;

Ethiopia is one of the Sub-Saharan African countries most seriously affected by environmental problems such as land degradation. In order to reduce these impacts, the Government of Ethiopia (GoE), in collaboration with its development partners, has been implementing the Sustainable Land Management Program (SLMP) since 2009. Deutsche Gesellschaft für lnternationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is currently supporting the Ethiopian Government’s efforts with the Sustainable Land Management Program (GIZ-SLM) operating in the country’s highland regions and with the Strengthening Drought Resilience Program (GIZ-SDR) which focuses on pastoralist lowland areas. In early 2016, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the European Union (EU) agreed to launch a new support program to SLMP under the title “EU Support to the Sustainable Land Management Program” (EU Support to SLMP).
